EFDI Conference & Annual Meeting, September 2008
The 2008 EFDI Annual Meeting and first EFDI – FDIC Joint Conference on “Financial Integration and the Safety Net” was hosted by Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland from 22-nd to 23-rd September 2008, in Dublin.
This meeting brought together representatives of Deposit insurance institutions from different European countries, as well as FDIC experts in financial markets. During the first day of the meeting, different panels discussed issues regarding DGS challenges facing integration of Financial Markets; Too Big to Fail: System Problems or Systemic Problems, where the panel argued whether Too Big to fail is caused by real systemic problems or lack of ability to pay insured depositors in a timely manner and also lessons from the Recent Banking Crisis.
During the second day, discussions were focused on how a fragmented regulatory and supervisory structure affects the viability of deposit insurance and as well issues EFDI is actually , examining in conjunction with the European Commission, such as Status Quo and Deposit Insurance Policy Developments at EU Level; Requirements of the EU Deposit Insurance Directive: How Various Countries Have Implemented the Directive, etc.
